University of Michigan's incoming president joins Twitter

Dr Mark S. Schlissel (Charles V. Tines / The Detroit News)

An official Twitter account appeared Tuesday for Dr. Mark Schlissel, but the University of Michigan’s incoming president has yet to tweet.

@DrMarkSchlissel joined the social media platform days before his tenure as UM’s 14th president begins Monday.

When he was introduced as UM’s next leader in January, a Twitter account purporting to be Schlissel’s also appeared with a handful of tweets including one asking for suggestions to improve the school since “two heads are better than one.”

But Schlissel said then it was a fake account, and he’s never tweeted.

Schlissel has a Facebook account but said in January that it is only to see pictures from his family.

Recently, an entry on for him was created in Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Schlissel also has a formal page on Facebook.

How long will it be before he joins Instagram?
