Hundreds of children participate in Metro Youth Day

Hundreds of kids flocked to an annual rite of summer on Belle Isle in Detroit on Wednesday.

Metro Youth Day, now in its 32nd year, draws youths ages 8-15 and area businesses for sports, fun and activities.

Volunteers from hundreds of organizations and businesses help support the event, including a scholarship award presentation for high school graduates; games, contests and entertainment; as well as a free lunch.

The event has grown from some 1,100 participants the first year to more than 34,000 in 2013, officials said.
