Michigan's Devin Gardner, MSU's Connor Cook on watch list for top quarterback award

Michigan senior Devin Gardner and Michigan State junior Connor Cook are among five Big Ten quarterbacks on the preseason watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award.

There are 39 players total on the watch list for the award, which is presented to the top quarterback in college football. The winner will be announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11.

The other Big Ten quarterbacks on the list are Penn State sophomore Christian Hackenberg, Ohio State senior Braxton Miller and Wisconsin junior Joel Stave.

Gardner threw for 2,960 yards in 2013, the second-highest single-season total in Michigan history. Cook has completed 58 percent of his passes,232-of-397) in 17 career games for the Spartans.
