A hit-and-run suspect left a trail of evidence — including a license plate — at the scene of a crash in Macomb Township Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Around 12:43 p.m. Wednesday, police were sent to the scene of a hit-and-run crash at 24 Mile, just west of Romeo Plank. A witness reported that a Ford Mustang was heading west when it crossed the opposite lane and ran off the road, hitting a concrete catch basin.
The driver got back onto the road and fled west on 24 Mile, police said.
Left at the scene was the vehicle’s bumper, with the license plate still attached.
Deputies looked up the registration information for the 2014 Ford Mustang, which led them to a home in the 52000 block of Fawn in Macomb Township.
Deputies who went to the home found a trail of fluid leading to the closed garage and wiring under the door still attached to the vehicle.
No one answered the door.
Charges are expected against the vehicle’s owner.
