Motor City Brewing Works has created Trois Cent Treize to celebrate the city's birthday. (John M. Galloway / Special to The Detroit News)
Celebrate Detroit’s 313th anniversary with beer and biking.
The Motor City Brewing Works has created Trois Cent Treize, a cask-conditioned Biere de Garde, to commemorate Cadillac’s arrival on the Detroit shore all those years ago.
They’re not just handing it out, though; you have to pedal for it. The brewery has teamed up with Wheelhouse Detroit bike shop to organize a guided bicycle tour to beers around Detroit. The expeditions start at at noon Thursday and the $10 fee includes a T-shirt.
The tour will stop at Foran’s Grand Trunk Pub and Park Bar downtown, Green Dot Stables, Slow’s BBQ and Mercury Bar in Corktown, Woodbridge Pub and Jacoby’s.
The final destination is 8 p.m. at St. Cece’s Pub in Corktown, where there will be an after party and Motor City Brewing Works beers on special all evening.
Pig & Whiskey fills Ferndale with good times
The scent of freshly seared meats wafted under sunny skies at East Troy and Woodward at the annual Pig & Whiskey festival last weekend.
Popular items were the burnt ends and pulled pork from Detroit BBQ Company, which sold out of food all three days. There was also a line to taste the huge turkey legs from R.U.B. BBQ Pub.
Sunday afternoon, some got a sneak peek of what’s to come at Zeke’s R&R BBQ, opening in downtown Ferndale this fall. Representatives from Zeke’s passed out samples of barbequed spaghetti and Bloody Marias made with Cabresto tequila.
