Drew VerHagen, who started Saturday’s game against the Indians and quickly returned to Triple A Toledo, is on the 15-day disabled list with an ailment officially described as a lower back strain.
The Tigers are not concerned that VerHagen, 23, and a right-hander who was charged with Saturday’s loss against Cleveland, will be sidelined for an extended period.
VerHagen was the Tigers’ fourth-round draft pick in 2013 following an accomplished career at Vanderbilt University. He was summoned by the Tigers as a spot-starter for Saturday’s day-night doubleheader at Comerica Park.
