Roseville — A 16-year-old St. Clair Shores girl was killed and seven other people were injured in a weekend car crash, police said.
The teen was a passenger in a Ford SUV that ran a red light and was hit by another vehicle shortly after midnight Saturday, according to Roseville Police Chief James Berlin.
The SUV was traveling north on Little Mack Avenue and was struck by the other vehicle, which was heading west on 12 Mile, he said in a statement.
The girl, who was riding in the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the SUV, according to police. Berlin said the girl died at the scene from multiple injuries.
Tony Diorio told the Macomb Daily that his granddaughter, Aliyah Diorio, told another girl she didn’t feel well after the crash and then “just passed away.”
The Ford’s adult driver and six teenaged passengers suffered mostly minor injuries, officials said.
Berlin said police arrested the driver of the other vehicle, a 33-year-old Clinton Township woman, on suspicion of drunken driving. She is being held at the Roseville Police jail, he said.
Police continue to investigate the crash and plan to submit their findings Monday to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office to determine what charges will be filed.
