Construction workers hit gas line at Detroit Metro

Romulus — Construction crews making repairs to a road at Metropolitan Airport hit a two-inch gas line Tuesday morning causing a nearby airport business to shut down temporarily.

“The break occurred at about 8:40 a.m. over by the Sky Chefs building on the northwest side of the airport,” said airport spokesman Mike Conway. “The break had no affect on incoming or outgoing flights. Sky Chef employees were restricted from entering or leaving the building. Crews from DTE Energy are on site capping the line.”

Located in Building 505 at the airport, Sky Chefs is an airline catering company. According to its website, the company provides an average of 25,000 meals for 350 flights on a daily basis.
