No. 1 pick Derek Hill ranked Tigers' top prospect by MLB.com

Outfielder Derek Hill, the Tigersí No. 1 draft pick last month, has been named the organizationís top prospect by mlb.com in its midseason rankings.

Left-hander Robbie Ray, acquired from Washington in the Doug Fister trade, is No. 2. Rounding out the top five are West Michigan shortstop Willy Adames, who was No. 1 on the preseason list, West Michigan right-hander Jonathon Crawford, the 2013 No. 1 pick, and Erie second baseman Devon Travis.

Right-handers Jake Thompson and Corey Knebel, who were traded to Texas in the Joakim Soria deal, had been ranked No. 3 and No. 5 for Detroit. Thompson is sixth and Knebel seventh on the Rangersí list.

Two players who fell out of the Tigersí top 20 are outfielder Daniel Fields and left-hander Casey Crosby. Both have been injured this season.

Hill, 6-2 and 195 pounds, is hitting .258 through 17 games for the Gulf Coast League Tigers.
