Michigan State football eighth, Florida State No. 1 in preseason coaches poll

National champion Florida State tops the preseason USA Today football coaches poll released Thursday, while Big Ten champion Michigan State is eighth. Thatís MSUís highest ranking in the poll since 1991.

Florida State, led by Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, received 56 first-place votes and 1,543 points overall. Ohio State received one first-place vote and 1,267 points, while MSU has 1,050 points and no first-place votes.

Michigan did not make the top 25.

Other Big Ten teams making the top 25 included Wisconsin (14th) and Nebraska (22nd)
