The Lionsí search for the right complementary receivers continued Monday as they claimed former first-round pick Jon Baldwin off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Baldwin was the 26th overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011, but was traded to the 49ers last August after two disappointing seasons.
Baldwin didnít fare any better in San Francisco, though, as he had just three catches for 28 yards in 2013.
The 49ers waived Baldwin Sunday, and claiming Baldwin comes at little risk for the Lions.
Behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, the Lions are still looking for their No. 3 and 4 receivers for this season. Kevin Ogletree has played well in training camp, Ryan Broyles could have a role once heís healthy and Kris Durham, Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross have all been competing, too.
If Baldwin has any untapped potential, itís worth it for the Lions to check him out in camp. The Lions waived undrafted rookie wide receiver Reese Wiggins to make room for Baldwin.
