East Lansing — Michigan State landed its 12th commitment for the 2015 class, and it came from another player who was considering Alabama.
Defensive back/wide receiver Kaleel Gaines of Frostproof (Fla.) committed Michigan State on Sunday evening, according to 247sports.com
“When I visited Michigan State earlier this summer, it just felt like home,” Gaines told 247sports. “They’re a perfect fit for me. It feels great to be a Spartan and I can’t wait to get back up there this fall.”
Gaines, who announced the decision on Twitter Monday, chose MSU over Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Gaines is listed as a three-star recruit by both 247sports and Rivals.com and is the third commitment for Michigan State from a player that held an offer from Alabama. Running back L.J. Scott of Hubbard, Ohio, and 2016 receiver Cameron Chambers of Sicklerville, N.J., have already pledged to the Spartans.
