Detroit — The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced it will close Interstate 94 between I-75 and the Lodge Freeway (M-10) this coming weekend.
The closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday with the freeway reopening at 5 a.m. Monday.
The closure is needed for crews to demolish the west half (southbound lanes) of the Woodward overpass over I-94 as part of the M-1 Rail project.
During the closure, the detour for westbound I-94 motorists will be to SB I-75 to WB I-96 and then back to WB I-94.
EB I-94 motorists will be diverted to EB I-96 then to NB I-75 and back to EB I-94. One lane will remain open for local traffic on EB I-94 from I-96 to the Lodge.
Additionally, the NB and SB Lodge ramps to WB I-94 will be open.
Starting Wednesday, Woodward will have one lane open in each direction over I-94, with a center turn lane. All traffic will be maintained on the east side (northbound) lanes of the bridge.
This configuration will remain in place until spring 2015. Additionally, the John R entrance ramp to WB I-94, and EB I-94 exit ramp to John R will be closed.
