The Lions waived wide receiver Jon Baldwin Wednesday after he failed a physical.
The team claimed the former first-round pick off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.
Baldwin, the 26th overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011, was supposed to be a low-risk addition who would compete for one of the final wide receiver spots on the roster. He was reportedly dealing with a knee injury.
The Lions now have an open spot on the 90-man roster.
Other teams will have a chance to claim Baldwin off waivers Thursday, and if goes unclaimed, the Lions could bring him back when he’s healthy.
Baldwin has had a disappointing career to this point. In two years in Kansas City, he never exceeded 21 catches, and last year in San Francisco he was active just seven games and had three catches for 28 yards.
The Lions also reached an injury settlement with wide receiver Cody Wilson, who was released last week.
