Tony Stewart, according to a team spokesman earlier this week, is mulling whether he will compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series race this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
While the Sprint Cup cars will be on the fast two-mile speedway at noon Friday for the first practice in preparation for qualifying later in the afternoon, Stewart does not have to participate to have a spot in Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.
Teams are permitted to start a driver different than the one who qualified the car, but that change results in the car starting at the rear of the field.
The driver starting the race earns all the points and statistics and the team owner distributes the purse money.
