Thursday's motors roundup: Nine teams join Alliance

Nine more organizations have joined the Race Team Alliance to tackle issues facing NASCAR.

The top nine teams had for the first time formed a single entity to collaborate on initiatives that could help them cut costs and communicate with one voice to NASCAR.

The teams added are: BK Racing, Circle Sport, Front Row, Germain Racing, Go Green/FAS Lane, HScott Motorsports, JTG Racing, Phil Parsons Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing.

The RTA already includes Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing, Richard Childress Racing, Richard Petty Motor Sports, Roush Fenway Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing and Team Penske.

Pit stops

NASCAR trucks series points leader Ryan Blaney will run a partial Sprint Cup schedule for Wood Brothers Racing in 2015. Wood Brothers announced that Blaney, 20, who has been a Team Penske developmental driver since 2012, will run at least 12 races in the No. 21 car.

Blaney will replace Trevor Bayne, who is moving to a full-time ride with Roush-Fenway Racing.

... Martin Truex Jr. will miss Sprint Cup practice and qualifying sessions Friday at Michigan International Speedway to support his cancer-stricken girlfriend. Matt Crafton will drive Truex’s No. 78 car. Truex will rejoin the team Saturday and race Sunday.
