Some rain could be in mix for Woodward Dream Cruise

The weather forecast for Dream Cruise Eve? Spectacular, with sunny skies, low humidity and temperatures in the mid-70s.

This follows on the heels of a cooler than normal night with temps that dipped into the mid-50s, what Michiganians love to call “good sleeping weather.”

“Friday will be pretty nice,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Thompson, working from the White Lake Township station. “The overnight temperature was cool, but it’s going to warm up quickly with plenty of sunshine.”

The normal night-time low for this time of year is 63, the record low for Aug. 14/15 is 46 set in 1979.

On Saturday, 40,000 cars will be ogled by a million onlookers from Ferndale to Pontiac as part of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

“Saturday will start out pretty nice, but there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms during the mid to late afternoon hours,” Thompson said. “That will increase to about a 50 percent chance during the overnight hours. The high temperature will be around 80 and the night time low will be in the mid-60s.”
