Michigan State is No. 8 in AP preseason poll; Michigan gets votes

Michigan State is No. 8 in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 college football poll, which was released Sunday.

Michigan is unranked, though it did receive votes to collect 19 points.

The Spartans are coming off a season in which they were 13-1, including victories over Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game, and Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Michigan State finished last season ranked No. 3, after opening the season unranked.

Defending national champion Florida State is the preseason No. 1, followed by Alabama, Oregon, and Oklahoma. Oregon hosts Michigan State on Sept. 6 in Eugene.

Ohio State checks in at No. 5 one of four Big Ten teams in the preseason poll. Wisconsin is No. 14, and Nebraska is No. 22.
