Statistics are through Saturday’s games

Triple A Toledo

Who’s hot …

Hernan Perez, IF: Just in time for his all-but-certain call to Detroit when rosters expand next week. Perez is batting .421 in his last 10 games, .287 on the season. Age is an ally for Perez, who is 23. He is 6-1, 185, and a product of Detroit’s Venezuelan pipeline.

Tyler Collins, OF: Tigers are having a hard enough time getting Don Kelly any work these days, so it’s uncertain if Collins will get a September invitation, even if a man who worked early in the season in Detroit is batting .316 in his last 10 games. Collins has 49 walks in 2014, part of a .341 on-base percentage. He is batting .266 with a .774 OPS. Collins, 24, bats left-handed and was a sixth-round pick in 2011 (Howard Junior College).

And who’s not …

Daniel Fields, OF: Hasn’t been much of a season for Fields, who missed a couple of months with a fractured hand. He’s batting .217 in 67 games, .179 in his last 10. Fields, 23, played prep baseball at University of Detroit Jesuit before the Tigers drafted him in 2009 (sixth round).

Double A Erie

Who’s hot …

Steven Moya, OF: Tigers would need to clear 40-man roster space to make Moya a September call-up, but it hardly matters. He will be viewed as a 2015 arrival, if not early in the season, possibly by mid-year. He has 33 home runs and an .845 OPS. Moya is still on the green side, having turned 23 on Aug. 9. He is 6-6, 230.

Angel Nesbitt, RH reliever: Strong overall season for Nesbitt, who arrived at Erie in July after a long stint smoking batters at Single A Lakeland. Nesbitt, 23, has a 2.60 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 21 games for the SeaWolves. He has struck out 33.

And who’s not …

SeaWolves have been on generally good behavior as the Eastern League schedule wanes.

Single A Lakeland

Who’s hot …

Austin Green, C: Batting .385 in his last 10 games, with four home runs. Green, 24, is a right-handed batter (6-1, 200) who was a 13th-round pick in 2013 (University of San Diego).

And who’s not …

Flying Tigers, like their Double A colleagues, have been on cruise control as Labor Day and the season’s final games draw near.

Single A West Michigan

Who’s hot …

Domingo Leyba, SS: Once his venerable infield partner, Willy Adames, moved to the Rays system as part of last month’s deal for David Price, Leyba sizzled: .487 in his last 10 games. Leyba began the summer at Single A Connecticut but was quickly promoted. In 21 games at West Michigan, he is batting .370, with an .834 OPS. Leyba bats right-handed, is 18, and measures 5-11, 160.

Kevin Ziomek, LH starter: Has had the best season of any starter in the Tigers’ farmlands: 2.13 in his last 10 starts (2.23 on the year) with 75 strikeouts in 5023 innings, alongside 15 walks and 36 hits. Ziomek, 22, was a second-round pick in 2013 (Vanderbilt). He is 6-3, 200.

Austin Kubitza, RH starter: Virtually the same story for Kubitza, who was Detroit’s fourth-round choice (Rice University) in 2013. In his last 10 games Kubitza has numbers on a par with his overall 2014 season: 58 strikeouts in 5413 innings, 19 walks, 41 hits.

Grayson Greiner, C: Steadily consistent professional entry for Greiner, the Tigers’ third-round pick in June (University of South Carolina). Greiner is batting .322 in 26 games, with an .839 OPS. He is 21 years old, stands 6-6, and weighs 215.

And who’s not …

Jose Zambrano, 3B: .189 in his last 10 games for a 20-year-old switch-hitter from Maracay, Venezuela.

Single A Connecticut

Who’s hot …

Johan Belisario, RH reliever: Has been having a quietly terrific summer at Connecticut: 5-0 in 16 games, with a 0.62 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. Belisario turned 21 on Aug. 13, is from Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela, and is 5-11, 165. He has 30 strikeouts and five unintentional walks in 29 innings. In his last 17 innings, he has struck out 17 and allowed nine hits.

Joe Jimenez, RH reliever: 2.13 in his last 10 games, 3.18 on the season (20 appearances). In those 10 games, Jimenez, has struck out 19 and walked two in 1223 innings. Jimenez is 19 and was signed out of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy.

Kasey Coffman, OF: Warming up (.308 in his last 10 games) a year after the Tigers made him a 10th-round pick (Arizona State). He is 6-3, 201, and bats left-handed.

Gabe Hemmer, RH reliever: He was a 24th-round pick in June (San Diego Christian College) and has had sharp numbers through 17 games: 1.61 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, .177 opposing batting average. Hemmer, 24, is 6-3, 220, and grew up in Yuma, Calif.

And who’s not …

No serious damage sustained by any of the Tigers in recent days.

Gulf Coast League (rookie)

Who’s hot …

Carlos Lara, RH reliever/starter: 5-0, with a 2.21 ERA in his last 10 games. On the season: 12 games (four starts): 2.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, .181 opposing batting average. Lara, 20, is 6-2, 170, and from Bani, Dominican Republic.

And who’s not …

Brenny Paulino, RH reliever: Tough summer for Paulino: 8.10 in 13 games with a 2.63 WHIP.
