MAC football coaches pick Bowling Green, Northern Illinois to meet in title game

Cleveland — Bowling Green and Northern Illinois are the football coaches’ picks to win the East and West Divisions, respectively, in the Mid-American Conference this season, according to a poll released Monday.

Bowling Green edged Akron and Ohio in the East, while Northern Illinois just beat out Toledo.

In the West, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan are picked Nos. 4, 5 an 6.

The conference is trumpeting parity, after six different teams have competed in the conference championship game in the last six years, and in the last three years, 10 programs have been eligible for a bowl.
