Ash Township — Authorities say a wrong-way driver has died after colliding with a truck on Interstate 275 in southeastern Michigan.
The Monroe County sheriff’s department says 29-year-old Siddhartha Verma of Livonia was heading northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle collided with the semi-truck in Ash Township.
The department says Verma was ejected from his vehicle, which split into several pieces, and the truck caught fire. Verma was pronounced dead at the scene. The 54-year-old man who was driving the truck was taken to a hospital with what were described as minor injuries.
The crash is under investigation. WWJ-AM (950) reports the freeway was closed for several hours following the crash as authorities were at the scene.
