Exeter Township— A man has died in an early Monday morning barn fire.
The body of the unidentified 54-year-old was found inside the barn in the 6000 block of Colf Road. His 58-year-old girlfriend escaped with burns to her hands and feet. She called 911 and Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded at about 12:42 a.m.
The woman was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor for treatment, according to a press release by the sheriff’s department.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy on the man. The identities of the man and woman are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The barn had an upstairs studio apartment.
The Exeter Township Fire Department put out the fire with the help of the London-Maybee-Raisinville and the Ash Township fire departments, the release said.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the the Detective Bureau at (734) 240-7530.
