Detroit— Police have identified a man and woman who were thrown from a car and fatally shot Sunday morning.
The victims were originally thought to be in their teens, although the woman, a Warren resident, was 23 years old. The male victim was an 18-year-old Detroit resident, Sgt. Michael Woody said.
Police would not provide names of the victims.
The two died after an unknown man forced them out of a car and fired four shots at them, according to a witness who phoned police at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday.
The incident happened in the 15800 block of Stoepel, near Livernois and the Lodge Freeway — a high-crime area, according to Detroit Police statistics. Since Aug. 1, there have been 29 assaults, five shootings, five robberies and two sexual assaults within a mile radius of where Sunday’s double homicide took place.
The case is still under investigation, Woody said.
