Ypsilanti — Three Eastern Michigan University football players have been charged with assaulting the cousin of a man convicted of killing teammate Demarius Reed.
The Ann Arbor News said court records show that Darius Scott, Quincy Jones and Jairockeis Jones are charged with aggravated assault. The charges involve Friday’s attack on Demarko Taylor, 24.
The players have a pretrial hearing Monday. Greg Steiner, Eastern Michigan assistant athletic director, said they remain on the team during disciplinary proceedings.
Taylor was a prosecution witness at a probable-cause hearing for Kristopher Pratt and Ed Thomas in the Oct. 18, 2013, robbery-slaying of Reed at an off-campus apartment in Ypsilanti. Reed, 20, was a Chicago native.
Taylor is Pratt’s cousin. Pratt pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
A jury acquitted Thomas.
