Ford to touch on DSO commitment

Jim Vella, president of the Ford Motor Company Fund, will speak on today's webcast of "Live from Orchestra Hall." Vella, whose fund underwrites the Detroit Symphony Orchestra webcasts, will touch on Ford's commitment to the DSO and the city it serves.

  1. Hubby on the fast lane to trouble

Dear Abby: There is an ongoing issue between my husband and me. It's his disregard for my personal safety. Our large city is known for its heavy, fast traffic and impatient drivers. "Jon" is a good driver. He likes to drive in the left (passing) lane on the highway or tollway, usually about five miles above the posted speed limit.

  2. AJ’s Music Cafe in Ferndale will be leaving with a legacy of headlines and good will

The mournful high school kids left a few minutes ago, and now AJ O’Neil is hearing condolences from a homeless guy named Lucky.

  3. Dietary restrictions not a reason for shame

Dear Abby: I was recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant. My question is, when dining at a restaurant, while everyone else is eating the bread that is served, is it acceptable to discreetly take a few gluten-free crackers from my purse and snack on them so I'm not starving while waiting for dinner?

The Parade Company is again offering private studio tours for Valentine's Day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday to Tuesday at 9500 Mt. Elliott, Studio A, Detroit.

  5. Ex-girlfriend seeks advice on warts diagnosis

Dear Abby: My boyfriend, "Brady," broke up with me in November. Five weeks later he became engaged to someone else. I found out after that I have genital warts. My yearly exams never showed any problems before, so I know I got them from Brady. I'll be contagious for the rest of my life.

  6. Hiller’s slick radio ad managed to mention the NFL’s Super Bowl without mentioning it

Jim Hiller is smart enough to know that you don’t win in court against the National Football League, no matter how right you are. At the same time — and at age 64 — he’s delinquent enough that he couldn’t resist twisting the bully’s nose.

    App of the Week

Flipboard calls itself a "social magazine," but we see it as a really cool way for iPhone and iPad users to view news stories, photographs and your Facebook and Twitter feeds. For instance, while flipping through your Twitter feed, links and photos in tweets can show up without the extra click.

  7. Don’t disturb 3rd shifters during day

Dear Abby: I just read the letter from a fellow frustrated night shifter, "Working a 40-Hour Week at Age 73" (Dec. 20). I have worked 12-hour shifts for many years to accommodate our family life. It is easier for me to be home in the morning to get the kids to school and be home when they get off the bus in the afternoon. I have the early evening free to get them to their activities, then go to work later.
