Detroit and the War of 1812

Battlefield reenactors commemorate the Battle of the River Raisin - in which the Americans were badly defeated - on Jan. 25, 2009 in Monroe. By the time of the River Raisin battle, Detroit had already been captured by the British, and to this day remains the only major American city ever to surrender to a foreign power.
