Detroit River scenes through the years

The Detroit River is seen here in 1957 at its southernmost point, looking toward the Detroit River Light in Lake Erie, completed in 1885. The 32-mile-long river, part of the boundary between the United States and Canada, has been an important shipping route since the early 19th century and remains one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
