Showtime! Detroit's historic theaters

A crowd outside the Michigan Theater in 1932 anticipates the arrival of vaudeville stars George Burns and Gracie Allen. Downtown Detroit between Campus Martius and Randolph Street was home to 11 theaters in the 1910s. The city acquired many more in the 1920s as movie palaces sprouted nationwide.
