Moving to Michigan in the 1800s

A busy Detroit riverfront is depicted in this 1838 etching from an original sketch by Fred K. Grain. By this time three steamers a day were arriving in Detroit, carrying 700 or more passengers, most of them looking to settle in Michigan.
