The Detroit Tigers' biggest star, Henry (Hank) Greenberg, became the second Major League baseball player to be inducted into the military during World War II, on May 7, 1941. With America's involvement in the war on the horizon, the country was watching to see if any of the best players would serve, especially Greenberg, who was Jewish.
