75 years ago: Life in Michigan in 1941

Leland Tyger, 18, is chucked under the chin by Gloria (last name not reported). Tyger was a survivor of the sinking of the USS Reuben James, hit by a torpedo from a German submarine. The torpedo was intended for a merchant ship the Rueben James was escorting across the Atlantic. Only 44 of a crew of about 160 survived.
