Detroit: Greatest hits from the archives

Detroit's skyline scrapes the clouds in a view from the roof of the old Detroit News Building in June 1932. The tall building on the left is the 47-story Penobscot Building, built in 1905. Most of Detroit's original skyscrapers are still standing in all their Deco glory, perhaps because during the city's tough times, there was no incentive to tear them down and replace them with newer models. This is from an original glass negative.
