Air raid! Detroiters prepare for the worst in World War II

More than 100,000 Detroiters volunteered to serve as air wardens and auxiliary fire fighters during World War II. They practiced wearing gas masks, rescuing injured people, learning first aid and putting out fires, all in an effort to prepare for air attacks from Germany or Japan that fortunately never came.
