5. 1998: Michigan State 28, Ohio State 24: Nick Saban was head coach when the Spartans, only 4-4, played at Columbus against another of OSU’s No. 1-ranked teams. The Buckeyes led, 17-3, in the first quarter and were still on top, 24-9, in the third. But turnovers, and touchdowns from Sedrick Irvin (pictured) and Lavaile Richardson (on a Bill Burke pass), combined with five Paul Edinger field goals, gave MSU an improbable triumph. Renaldo Hill’s waning-seconds interception wrapped up a breakthrough game for Saban and MSU.
