Anibal Sanchez latest Tigers starter to get rocked

In a 7-2 loss to the Texas Rangers on Saturday night, Sanchez lasted exactly as long as Verlander did Thursday night. Usually, that’s a good thing. Most of the time, lasting as long as Verlander, is something you want to do. Not in this series, though.

  1. This is why the Tigers refused to dump Rick Porcello in a trade

Porcello has had one bad start in 2013. He has four consecutive quality starts (six innings or more, three or fewer earned runs allowed) after winning Friday night’s pitching fest that saw the Tigers tip the Rangers, 2-1.

  2. 10 players Tigers would love to have on draft day

College pitchers, ideally, are on the Tigers’ menu since they could be staring at a rotation hole if Max Scherzer follows the customary advice of agent Scott Boras and tries out free agency following the 2014 season.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland trusts Justin Verlander's prowess

Not one to sound a premature alarm, Leyland by Friday had long since moved on from the fact that Verlander encountered the single worst inning of his career — the seven-run third — in Thursday night’s 10-4 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Tigers’ Rick Porcello holds Rangers in check

Porcello, his season continuing to mend since a first-inning nightmare in Anaheim, made it four consecutive strong starts Friday night in the Tigers’ 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers.

  3. Detroit Tigers won’t be the same until Justin Verlander is winning again

Verlander hasn’t been himself in his last two starts. Should you worry? Of course, you should. But choose the right reason to do it. Let’s discard this reason first: His health.

  4. Long shot Matt Tuiasosopo proving his value to Tigers

How good has reserve outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo been for the Tigers? Minutes after the Tigers’ 7-5 loss to the Astros Thursday, angry Tiger fans were complaining about Don Kelly pinch hitting for Tuiasosopo in the ninth inning.

  5. Miguel Cabrera blast more evidence Comerica needs added charm, less space

The reason Tiger Stadium had succeeded in becoming a baseball treasure was because, in the manner of the game’s hoary venues, it was built in a certain spirit. It was intimate. Not that it was meant to be a hitter’s playpen. It wasn’t.
