    Analysts: GM's second-quarter earnings likely to take hit from recall-related charges

    General Motors Co. is likely to release lower second-quarter earnings Thursday than a year ago, as the company is expected to take a $1.2 billion recall charge and give a cost estimate for a victims fund related to its recall of 2.59 million cars with faulty ignition switches.

    GM calls back 822,000 vehicles in 6 new campaigns

    Washington General Motors said today it is recalling 822,000 vehicles worldwide in six new recall campaigns. None are related to ignition switch issues, and most are for minor problems. The new recalls mean GM has issued a record 60 separate recall campaigns this year affecting 28.77 million vehicles after it revised the count for an earlier recall in June.

    GM expected to take $1.2B in recall-related earnings charge

    Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. will release second-quarter earnings Thursday that each are expected to fall short of last year’s second quarter. As part of that process, GM is expected to give a potential cost estimate for a victim compensation fund related to its recall of 2.59 million cars with ignition switch defects that have been linked to at least 13 deaths.
