Edward Sana saw many vehicles that impressed him at the Detroit auto show this year, but the Mercedes-Benz S550 was the one he couldn’t stop thinking about.
"I love the Mercedes S-class. It's probably one of my favorite cars. It just screams luxury," the 25-year-old casino dealer and biology major at Wayne State University said. "It has every feature you can imagine."
The Hazel Park resident is the winner of the Detroit News Best in Show contest. He filled out our online survey, choosing his top picks from the auto show in six categories. The prize package: a $150 StubHub gift card, a $150 Selden Standard gift card and a Miguel Cabrera-signed baseball.
Sana also kept up the luxury theme for his other top picks, choosing the S550 for “sleekest ride” while the Mercedes-Benz SL made the top of his list for “Interior Envy.” The BMW M5 caught his eye as “most tech-savvy,” and the Cadillac Escala was his pick for “Exterior Envy.” As for the car that’s the best bang for your buck? Sana had to go with the Mazda6.
It was just the second time Sana has been to the auto show. But he enjoys seeing what the automakers have to offer, especially the unique concept cars that you can't see on the road every day.
He also likes being the envy of his friend group.
"I have a lot of friends from out of state. They think the Detroit auto show is the coolest thing ever. They are jealous I get to go," said Sana. "It's good for the city of the Detroit after all we've been through. Just one of the many things that makes us stand out."
As for what he plans to do with the prize? "I've never been to a concert and The Weeknd is coming in May," he said. "I told my friends, 'we're going, I've got you guys.'"
