Ford Motor Co.’s sales in China rose 9 percent in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same time a year ago thanks to record sales of vehicles including the Mondeo and Escort.

The Dearborn automaker sold 296,825 vehicles in China during the first three months of 2015, up from the 271,321 vehicles sold there during the same period last year. Ford’s March China sales were up 1 percent.

Sales for Ford’s passenger car joint venture, Changan Ford Automobile, were up 12 percent in the first quarter compared to 2014, and sales of its other investment, Jiangling Motors Corp., were up 5 percent in the first quarter.

CAF sales were led by the Mondeo, whose year-to-date sales are up 7 percent compared to last year.

Last month, Ford opened its sixth assembly plant in China and increased its capacity there by 250,000 vehicles.
