Ford Motor Co.’s sales in Europe last month rose 7.2 percent as customer demand for new or refreshed products like the Mondeo, Kuga and Transit drove customers into showrooms.
The Dearborn automaker said Friday it sold 106,900 vehicles last month. The April increase is slightly lower than the industry-wide growth of 7.3 percent.
The company’s market share was flat last month, and rose 0.2 percentage point through the first four months of the year. Ford said it’s increasing its vehicle sales forecast to between 15.2 and 15.7 million units for 2015, up from previous guidance of 14.8 million to 15.3 million units.
“We’re taking advantage of this growth in the market with our new vehicles, with sales of the all-new Mondeo up 69 percent year-over-year, and customer orders for the Fiesta — Europe’s best-selling small car for the past three years, and again in the first quarter of 2015 — up by almost 40 percent last month,” said Peter Fleet, vice president, sales, Ford of Europe.
Other vehicles that fared well include the Ranger, with a 21 percent sales increase, and the Kuga, whose sales rose 25 percent compared to the same period last year.
