Ford Motor Co. on Thursday said its sales in China rose 5 percent in March and are up 14 percent through the first three months of 2016.

The Dearborn automaker said it sold 114,788 vehicles in March, and 314,454 new cars and trucks in the year’s first quarter. It said sales of its Lincoln luxury brand reached 5,484 through the first quarter of the year.

“We are pleased with the continued growth and positive customer response our products continue to receive in China,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford Motor China. “We remain committed to offering a great portfolio of vehicles and providing world class service to our valued customers.”

Sales for Changan Ford Automobile, Ford’s passenger car joint venture, were up 12 percent in March and up 23 percent through the first quarter. It said its SUVs were popular; sales of those vehicles rose 29 percent and 38 percent through the first quarter.

Performance cars like the Mustang and Focus RS have also sold well.

Sales for Jiangling Motors Corp., Ford’s commercial vehicle investment in China, were down 8 percent in March and down 11 percent through the first quarter.

This is the first time Ford has reported quarterly sales for Lincoln. It previously reported Lincoln sold more than 11,630 vehicles in China in 2015.

Ford says Lincoln now has 37 dealerships open in China. The brand opened its first showrooms there in November 2014 and executives have said they expect to have 60 dealerships in 50 cities by the end of 2016.
