New York — Subaru went big on Wednesday in introducing a full-size SUV concept — a departure from the brand’s smaller crossovers.
The Ascent SUV concept that rolled out at the New York Auto Show on Wednesday seats seven across three rows, and an all-new 2.4-liter boxer engine with turbocharged direct injection. In conjunction with the company’s “Dynamic x Solid” design theme, their sports stark fender flares and a “bluff grill denoting a true SUV look,” Subaru says.
The production version of the Ascent will arrive next year and will be built in Indiana, according to Tom Doll, president and chief operating officer of Subaru USA. The Ascent gives Subaru an offering to reach growing families, something it has been lacking, he said.
There are captain’s chairs in the second row and seating for three in the rear. “This thing is huge,” Doll said.
