Flint native Christopher Paul Curtis will present his latest book, “The Madman of Piney Woods,” from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Berkley High School Auditorium, 2325 Catalpa.

Curtis’ first books — “Bud, Not Buddy,” “The Watsons Go to Birmingham — 1963” and “Elijah of Buxton” — received the Coretta Scott King Award that is annually given to African-American writers. In 2000, “Bud, Not Buddy” was the first book to receive both the Newbery Medal and the Coretta Scott King Award. In his new book, his eighth, Curtis takes readers to the town of Buxton, Ontario, set in 1901.

The event, presented by the Berkley School District and the Book Beat, is free and open to the public.
