The sweet, smokey taste of Slows Bar-B-Q will be available to Grand Rapids meat-lovers this spring. The Corktown hot spot revealed plans to open a full-service restaurant in the Grand Rapids Downtown Market.

Located at Ionia and Logan, the Grand Rapids Slows locale will have a full bar and offer a menu similar to the original Detroit Slow's, which opened in 2005.

"We started looking at Grand Rapids several months ago, and then the Downtown Market became a possibility," says one of Slows owners, Terry Perrone. The area is an indoor and outdoor cluster of high end and artisanal vendors.

"We're going to run it more market style, more like Texas-style barbeque" says Perrone. This means more direct service. The customer will order from the person cutting the meat. Plans are still being laid out, but Perrone says Slow's space in the Market will include a dedicated seating area with bar seating and likely long, communal tables.

This is the popular barbeque restaurant's first venture outside Detroit. Slows, which has been featured on a variety of food and travel television shows, opened the carry-out storefront Slows-To-Go in Midtown in 2010. Perrone says Slows-To-Go is also working on designs for a food truck to aid catering in the future.
