Chef Lorraine Platman has been serving inventive and health-conscious cuisine at her Sweet Lorraine's restaurants for 30 years. She, along with business partner and husband Gary Sussman, are celebrating this milestone with special weekday promotions that will last through the end of 2015.

At both the Southfield and Livonia restaurants, diners can take advantage of a prix fixe, three-course meal on Mondays and Tuesdays. Platman will let you choose an appetizer, entree and dessert for $19.84.

Also through the end of the year, Sweet Lorraine's Cafe & Bar will have $2 wines by the glass on Wednesdays — what a deal! — and two entrees for $30 on Thursdays.

Sweet Lorraine's has been a go-to place for ethnic and vegan cuisine and grass-fed meats, long before such things were mainstream. Popular dishes include the vegetarian meatloaf with portobello mushroom gravy and the lobster mac and cheese with bacon, Emmentaler Swiss and cheddar cheese, tomatoes and toasted breadcrumbs.

Platman has also opened a spin-off brand called Sweet Lorraine's Fabulous Mac n' Cheez!, a casual chain with 14 types of the gooey dish in two sizes (mini or mega), or you can create your own with a variety of cheeses and toppings like spinach, walnut pesto, ground hamburger and more. Grasshopper Underground celebrates five years

If you've ever heard electronic music pumping through the night while in downtown Ferndale, chances are it came from Grasshopper Underground. The nightclub, which is open every evening at 22757 Woodward, south of Nine Mile, is celebrating five years this summer.

Sunday nights are home to hip-hop and reggae, and Mondays patrons are invited to bring in their own records for open vinyl night. There is no cover on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays start with a yoga class from 7-8 p.m. Hear Top 40 on Thursdays, and techno and house music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Kudos to Corktown mixologist

Congratulations to bartender Jason Leinart of Sugar House in Corktown who was named a finalist in the Broker's Bowler Cup, a national competition sponsored by Broker's Gin, a small batch spirit from England. Leinart and his cocktail — named May Flowers, made with vermouth, creme de violette, yellow Chartreuse and Broker's Gin, of course — will be featured in Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans on July 17. A first-place winner will be chosen there.
