The Detroit location for Wahlburgers restaurant chain will open this summer at 569 Monroe in the heart of Greektown, Greektown Casino-Hotel announced this week.
Actor Mark Wahlberg, who owns the chain with his brothers Paul Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg — also an actor – revealed in December that he was planning to open a Wahlburgers in Greektown in a Dan Gilbert property.
"My family and I are grateful to be part of the rebuilding of the great city of Detroit with the summer opening of Wahlburgers," said Mark Wahlberg in a press release.
Mark Dunkeson, president and chief operating officer of JACK Entertainment LLC, which operates the casino, also shared the enthusiasm.
“Our organization has gotten to know the Wahlberg brothers over time, and they share our deep passion for urban revitalization,” Dunkeson said in the release. “They're perfect for Greektown in the heart of downtown Detroit.”
The Detroit Wahlburgers will be located in a two-story space next to Red Smoke Barbeque restaurant. The 4,200 square-foot burger joint will serve lunch and dinner and feature a full bar. Besides burgers, the menu will includes salads, fries and other sides like tater tots.
The Greektown restaurant will be first of six Wahlburgers planned for the Detroit area. These locations are part of a nationwide expansion for the brand, which struck deals with various franchise groups to expand to a total of 118 restaurants.
The casual burger chain is featured on an A&E reality show of the same name. The opening coincides with the reported start of filming for “Transformers 5” starring Mark Wahlberg in Detroit in June.
