Downtown Detroit’s first Panera Bread location opens Thursday in the GM Renaissance Center.

The 4,429-square-foot restaurant will have the standard Panera menu of baked goods, sandwiches, soups and salads, plus new technology. Customers can pay via mobile, and can order in advance to-go with Rapid Pick-Up meals.

The restaurant, located on Level A of the GM Wintergarden, will seat 70 and employ about 30.

Panera Bread, which launched 30 years ago and has nearly 2000 cafes in North America, is the newest addition to the culinary offerings at the Ren Cen. In February Minnesota-based Granite City Food & Brewery opened a 16,000-square-foot bar and restaurant on the ground floor.
