Pasta Orleans, crawfish étouffée and the Combo Momo platter are back in Southfield with the opening of Fishbone’s West.
The restaurant, which closed in 2016, received a compete overhaul along with its new name and debuted earlier this week.
“It’s such a different restaurant, there’s not a square inch that wasn’t touched,” said owner Nico Gatzaros, adding that the bar, roof, carpet, booths and the building’s insulation are all new. “We’ve upgraded the entire facility. We’re here to stay for another 20 years.”
In addition to the new granite bar and an exterior neon sign, Fishbone’s West – formerly named Fishbone’s Rhythm Kitchen Cafe – also has an 800-gallon aquarium that holds a saltwater reef. The colorful aquariums are staples at the St. Clair Shores and Greektown locations.
“It’s a very romantic look” said Gatzaros, whose family also owns the London Chop House in downtown Detroit. “It’s beautiful. It’s probably the nicest Fishbone’s out of all of them now. It’s almost a combo between the St. Clair Shores Fishbone’s and the London Chop House.”
The menu will be the same as the other locations with a focus on seafood, steaks and Creole dishes and a full sushi menu. The bar has a weekday happy hour 3-6 p.m. and offers carry-out service.
Fishbone’s West is open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. daily at 29244 Northwestern in Southfield. Call (248) 351-2925 or visit fishbonesusa.com.
