The popular downtown coney restaurant is bringing back this unholy mix of sweet and savory due to popular demand
American Coney Island is celebrating Fat Tuesday next week with the return of a bizarre but beloved franken-food.
Coney pączki — a coney dog with chili, mustard and onion placed in a sugary pączek instead of a bun — will be sold at the downtown diner starting at 8 a.m. on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Each one will cost $5.
“It was a huge hit last year,” said American Coney Island co-owner Grace Keros, who began offering the hot dog in a Polish pastry in 2017. “People loved it.”
Keros couldn’t say exactly how many coney pączki were sold last year, but sales kept up all day and it was evidently popular enough to bring back this year.
The following day, Feb. 14, American will turn up the romance for couples during the “coneys by candlelight” event 6-9 p.m. Ladies get a complimentary long-stem rose. No reservations needed.
