Friday is National Beer Day and the day the Tigers play their first home game, taking on the Boston Red Sox. What to do? Drink beer.
From First Draft correspondent Melody Baetens:
Here’s what I’d drink tomorrow if I weren’t interviewing people drinking instead. I hope this is what you were looking for.
The Skip’s take on a gin and tonic with gin, lemongrass, Kaffir lime, galangal, cardamom and cinchona bark. This open-air bar in the Belt alley way (1234 Library) is open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Opening Day with lamb hot dogs and other gourmet snacks.
For those really into the Tigers’ spirit MIX Bricktown (641 Beaubien) is opening at 6 a.m. with blue-colored beer. If tinted beer doesn’t paint enough of a visual, imagine that MIX will also have beer pong, flip cup and bag toss games, plus DJs and face painting.
Punch Bowl Social has nearly 80 beer taps, and on opening day they’ll be featuring products from Michigan’s Greenbush and Showrt’s Brewing, plus Deep Eddy Vodka. Look for specials and promotion giveaways.
From First Draft correspondent Dawn Needham:
If I weren't drinking O'Doul's at the office potluck (I'll get my revenge later), I'd head over to Batch Brewing Co., 1400 Porter St., for an Anton's Animals or Second to Last Word (which I've been enjoying since winter. Which it still feels like.) I'm also interested in their Everything Looks Like A Nail IPA and the Saison du Chef, indications it's been too long since I've been there.
Atwater Brewery's Detroit tap house, 237 Jos Campau, is pouring $3 Dirty Blondes all day long. Also look for the Corktown Rye IPA or, if you've been drinking all day and want to take it a little easy, tyr Going Steady IPA, their session ale.
