Michigan's top craft brewer Bell's will start distributing its Hopslam Ale this week. Brewed with honey and six different hops, the double IPA is expected to ship to bars and restaurants in lower Michigan, including the tri-counties, this week.

According to bellsbeer.com, the rest of Michigan and some surrounding states will get Hopslam next week, and much of the rest of the country will have access to it the week of Jan. 15.

The specialty beer is available in six packs of 12-ounce cans, on draft and in 5-liter mini-kegs. It is 10 percent alcohol by volume and has a shelf life of only about three months.

Bars all over the country are hosting Hopslam release parties, including the beer-centric HopCat restaurants. Hopslam will be available at all locations - including Midtown and Royal Oak - starting at 11 a.m. Monday. Karl's Cabin in Plymouth is tapping it at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 and One Under Bar & Grill in Livonia will celebrate the hop explosion at 5 p.m. Jan. 11. Busch's Fresh Food Market's Canton location will host an in-store tasting at 5 p.m. Jan. 12.

Later this month on Jan. 19, JB's Smokehouse in Canton will host a six-course Bell's dinner with a cheese course that will be paired with Hopslam. Tickets to that event, $50, can be purchased here.
